At what price can the pace be sustained? Insights into Nissan’s 10% Market Share Goal

Can Nissan hold at least 10 percent of U.S. sales?

Beginning in the 4th quarter of 2011, Nissan’s CEO Carlos Ghosn has proclaimed that the automaker will seek to hold at least 10 percent of U.S. sales nationally (and in every major region of the country) within three years. A leading reason for Ghosn’s aggressive forecast is the momentum that the brand hopes to receive from multiple upcoming launches (e.g., Altima, Sentra, Pathfinder, and JX). To provide further credence to Ghosn’s aggressive forecast, Nissan’s share of U.S. sales has steadily increased since 2009. During that timeframe, Nissan’s share has increased from 7.4% to 8.2% (see chart below – click to enlarge).

Gilt is Guilty of Exclusion

Gilt’s recent campaign targets only new members, leaves existing users feeling left out

I have always thought of ladies with bags covered in designer logos as walking advertisements. However, I understand and appreciate the high quality materials and level of craftsmanship that comes with the premium price tag. Being one who is drawn to deals and always wanting a bargain, I turn to flash sale sites to look for designer goods. Recently, I visited Gilt.com, a flash sale site that offers lower prices on luxury brands, and found the perfect bag for spring. I definitely felt guilty for coveting a tote that was equal to two round-trip tickets to the Caribbean. Do I really need this bag? Should I splurge or save for that vacation? Let’s just say, I did not give in to my spending habit.

Just the other day, I received an email offer from United that would help me get my bag and earn miles toward my trip. How could I pass up on this offer? Easily, since the fine print states that the “offer is limited to new Gilt members only.”
